Answers to common questions you might have.
Hello, North City! My name is Logan Blomberg, and I have the pleasure of sharing how God has been speaking to me lately. This week, the opening verses of Psalm 22 have weighed heavily on my heart.
In verse 1, David cries out, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” This statement is pain-filled, honest, and deeply human. It reminds us that even a man after God’s own heart (as well as Jesus on the cross) experience moments of deep anguish and apparent silence from heaven.
However, in verses 2–3, David’s tone/attitude shifts. While he still feels abandoned, he holds onto what he knows to be true: “Yet You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.” It’s a reminder that God’s presence and glory isn’t proven by how we feel, but by who He is. Psalm 22 teaches us that we can be honest with God, even in our pain, while still anchoring our faith in God’s unchanging character.
Towards the end of the chapter, David still feels far from God (v. 19), but says again in verse(s) 22-23, “I will declare Your name to my people; in the assembly I will praise You. You who fear the Lord, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor Him! Revere Him, all you descendants of Israel”.
I don’t know what current challenges you are facing, but I do know that God is always near even when He seems distant. I pray that we can maintain this posture of reverence towards God unchanging love, regardless of our earthly circumstances. I encourage you to read Psalm 22 – in its totality this week and meditate on the tension between crying out to God when it seems he isn’t listening and God’s never ceasing love for us.
